Live hAPPLEyHarvest Time has gone through a huge transformation in the past few years! We have planted over 1000 new apple trees. It takes several years for the new trees to begin producing apples. 2010 was the first year we offered pick-your-own apples with our young trees. Check our facebook page for current information on apple picking and other activities at Harvest Time! The 2011 apple picking schedule will be posted sometime in August 2011.

The Pick-Your-Own Apple Orchard is not open yet for the 2011 season. Sad

Gala
Gala
Gala apples are smaller and are usually red with a portion being greenish or yellow-green, vertically striped. Tehy are sweet with a mild flavor and a thinner skin than most apples. Gala is an early fall variety, usually ripening around the first weekend in September.

McIntosh
McIntosh
The McIntosh (or Mac) has red and green skin, a tart flavor, and tender white flesh. It is well known for the pink sauce unpeeled McIntoshes make. It is well suited for applesauce, cider, and pies. McIntosh is an early fall variety, usually ripening in the first 2 weeks of September.

Honey Crisp
Honeycrisp
Honeycrisp is THE favorite variety for many poeple. Honeycrisp is prized for its sweetness, firmness, and tartness that make it an ideal apple for eating raw. Honeycrisp was thought to be a hybrid of Macoun and Honeygold apples. However, genetic fingerprinting determined that neither of these cultivars is a parent of the Honeycrisp, but that the Keepsake apple is one of the parents. The other parent has not been identified.. Honeycrisp usually ripens in mid-September.

Jonathan
Jonathan
Jonathan is a favorite for many bakers. It's sweet, tangy flavor adds robustness to pies and desserts! It usually ripens in mid-September.

Empire
Empire is a wonderfully flavored cross between McIntosh and Red Delicious. It usually ripens in late September to early October.

Red Delicious
Red Delicious
Red Delicious is the most popular apple variety. It is a beautiful, deep red apple. Red Delicious usually ripens at the end of September or early Ocotber.

Zestar!
Jonagold
Jonagold is a cross between Golden Delicious and Jonathan which was developed in 1953 in New York. It is a large sweet fruit with a thin skin. Jonagold has a green-yellow basic color with crimson, brindled covering color.
Jonagold is crisp, juicy and aromatic and has a sweet-sour taste. Jonagold usually ripens in mid- to late-September.

Golden Delicious
Golden Delicious
Golden Delicious is the best kept secret of apples. It is a crunchy, sweet apple that is great for baking and eating out of hand! It's sweet flavor means you can add LESS sugar to your recipes. Golden Delicious usually ripens in early Ocotber.

Braeburn
Braeburn
Braeburn is a dessert apple with crsip flesh, first grown in New Zealand. The Braeburn is an apple that is firm to the touch with a red/orange vertical streaky appearance on a yellow/green background. Its color intensity can vary. They are known to have a burst of flavor when bitten into.
Braeburn is thought to be a cross between Granny Smith and Lady Hamilton. The apple itself is named after Braeburn Orchard where it was first commercially grown.
Braeburn apples have a unique combination of sweet and tart flavor. They are medium to large in size and store well when chilled. Braeburn usually ripens in early October.

Blondee
Blondee
A new variety for the early season, Blondee is a yellow-skinned Gala-type apple, ripening before traditional Gala. It is very good for fresh eating, has a smooth finish and crunchy texture. Blondee usually ripens in late August.

Zestar!
Zestar!

The most outstanding feature of a Zestar!® Apple is its sprightly sweet-tart taste with a hint of brown sugar. And, Zestar!® is juicy with a light, crisp texture. Just one bite, and you will savor the zesty flavor and crunch.
Zestar!® Apples are nice and round, medium to large insize. Their color is mainly red depending on exposure to the sun. Where the sun shines on the fruit, a bright rosy-red blush develops. Shaded areas are often creamy yellow.
Apple lovers will delight in this tasty apple that ripens so early in the season. Zestar!® fruit ripen in late August to early September. It's the perfect way to start the apple season on a good note.
